Memphis artist RICH OG turns adversity, memory, and hard-earned perspective into something deeply personal on his new single, “Home Without A Roof.”

There’s a version of the “rags to riches” rap story that focuses almost entirely on the shine, leaving the reckoning somewhere off-camera. RICH OG takes a different route. On “Home Without A Roof,” he looks directly at his upbringing in Frayser, North Memphis, without romanticizing it or forcing the story into a neat redemption arc.
Instead, the song explores what adversity actually leaves behind — the perspective, scars, patience, and lessons that continue shaping a person long after they’ve moved beyond the circumstances that created them.
That distinction gives the record its weight. Hip-hop origin stories are often polished in retrospect, reshaped around the success that eventually followed. RICH OG’s writing feels less interested in rewriting history and more interested in sitting with it.
